Right Up My Avenue

I feel a little late to the game, but we saw Avenue Q today (my first time). I expected to feel awkward and uncomfortable, and not laugh very much. Yeah yeah, so I'm a bit of a prude. But I actually found it hilarious. The music is great, the pacing and scenes are wonderful. Clearly someone was sitting around and said, "So what happens when all those people who lived on Sesame Street grew up and graduated from college?" Avenue Q is what happens. And the final message is Buddhist! Who'da thunk it? It turns out that the whole point is to live in the now, since that's all we have. There's only the present. Nothing lasts. Life is suffering. Ok, so they don't say that last part. They do say "Life is scary, but only temporary." Comedy, romance, and Buddhism, all rolled into one musical. Right up my alley.

Reunimations

We just got back from my 5 (6) year college reunion. Oberlin reunites in clusters, so I was there with the two classes that graduated after me. ehs was amazing, Oberlin was better with him there. He was friendly, charming, sweet. Everyone liked him, and he met tons of people. He remembered names of people and buildings. By the second day he was waving to people he'd met, and striking up conversations with people in the bar. I was very impressed. He had a great time, and really enjoyed meeting everyone. Things felt extra-special because I got to show them off to him. I can't imagine the weekend being any better (aside from the presence of a few certain people, who understandably were not in Ohio). I guess those are the things that you survive with your spouse and see as a sign of the strength of your relationship: long car trips, class reunions, and what else? Abduction by aliens? We haven't gotten to that marriage crisis yet.
