Fluid Geography

I see the geography of cities as fluid
maps instantly constructed and destroyed
as you learn and relearn your neighborhood
realizing proximity and distance are not
what they seemed

we all create our maps based on emotion
experiences embodying place with a place
on the page
a dot, a pin, a mark to say "I was here"
identified by where and when
we had a fight
you proposed
I saw the cutest guy
they had the best noodles there

then the relationship ends or blossoms
the noodle shop becomes a taco place
the unknown becomes familiar
and the map shrinks again
flows into a picture of home
